I am honored to announce that my “Evans Canyon Fire” series of images has been selected for the Midwest Center for Photography’s 2021 Portfolio Platform. While I surely enjoy creating single artful images, pulling together a whole portfolio is exponentially more of a storytelling challenge. Not only does each image have to hit a certain standard, but the sequencing of the multiple images allows the deeper and broader story to emerge.
The “Evans Canyon Fire” portfolio is as much photojournalism as it is fine art. The Evans Canyon Fire started on Aug 31st, 2020, and lasted about two weeks, consuming over 75,000 acres between Yakima and Ellensburg in central Washington state. During the past 12 years I have hiked and photographed this area frequently, and it was with mixed emotions that I photographed the fire’s aftermath.
These images will be online through September, and of course shown at the Midwest Center for Photography in Wichita where they can be purchased.
